Creating an Urban Learning Campus in the Heart of Seattle

City University of Seattle is moving its headquarters from Bellevue to the Sixth and Wall Building located in Seattle, Washington. Through this move, CityU of Seattle aims to continue the revitalization of one of the region's most dynamic communities - South Lake Union - by providing an opportunity for continuous learning downtown. The first floor has predominantly student and community-facing amenities, which includes classrooms, state of the art teaching facilities, resource centers to support students and the neighborhood. The second floor accommodates administrative offices and academic support staff. Combined, CityU will occupy approximately 88,000 square feet of this iconic Seattle building.

Furthering CityU's Mission in Seattle

Since 1973 CityU has been committed to providing a relevant, flexible and accessible education for students managing their education alongside work and life's many curveballs. CityU's new urban learning campus will provide students and the community with the ability to attend classes in contemporary, interactive and innovative learning spaces, during or after their work day. The South Lake Union neighborhood offers the perfect urban learning environment that modern student life requires such as internship opportunities at innovative landmark companies and, a myriad of affordable transportation, entertainment and living options within a 1-mile radius.

5 Outcomes Our Urban Learning Campus Aims to Achieve:

  1. Expands Access - CityU is committed to educating ANYONE with the desire to learn. We're dedicated to helping students of all ages, backgrounds and life situations change their life through education. Bottom line – we aim to expand educational access through our urban campus.
  2. Enriches the Student Experience – Students are CityU's number one priority. Our urban learning campus will provide students with interactive classrooms, state of the art teaching facilities, and resource centers that are equipped with the latest technology.
  3. Enhances the International Experience – With locations in 11 countries, 4 continents and over 30 sites all teaching our curriculum in English, a CityU student can truly complete her degree abroad within one institution. Aside from our multiple locations, CityU has a growing international domestic student population, and is dedicated to its students having an international academic experience online and onsite. Because Seattle is an international port and destination, it was the perfect location for CityU to expand and grow their international experience.
  4. Extends Innovation – As the first in the region to focus on serving adult education, CityU continues to innovate by pushing the barriers with online and "mixed mode" (online + onsite) education. CityU is committed to developing new teaching styles and techniques that serve the adult and contemporary learner, and is dedicated to introducing new partnerships and alliances with educators around the world who do the same.
  5. Embodies the Importance of Place - Place matters! CityU recognized that online does not replace the need for face-to-face education. There will always be a need for live interaction in the cycle of learning and training. The fact that "place matters", motivated the move to an urban, up and coming, location in Seattle. CityU's new location is in the heart of downtown and at the center of the city's revitalization efforts – creating a CityU campus in South Lake Union.
"City University of Seattle will help enhance innovation and improve Seattle's quality of life - two key elements of a city that can compete in the global economy."
—Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn
